Governance

The Board of Trustees is the Governing Body for the organisation and remains accountable in law and to OFSTED for the exercise of it’s functions. It is the accountable body for all the Academies within the Trust and has four key functions:

Ensures clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
Holds the CEO to account for the educational performance and the performance management of staff
Oversees the financial performance of the Trust, ensuring financial probity and value for money
Holds the Local Governing Boards to account

The Trust board meets at least termly and has a number of committees which also meet at least termly. Trustees have decision making powers described fully in the Scheme of Delegation and are both company directors and charity trustees as academy trusts have the status of both company and charitable trust.

Our Governors

To support the work of schools and the Trustees, Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust ensures the local stakeholder voice is represented and heard through our Local Governing Boards. They are committees of the Trust Board and provide a local level of access and accountability for our parents and carers, provide a monitoring and challenge role and have some delegated decision-making as described in the Scheme of Delegation. This is the place where individual pupil and parent voice is heard and understood; where the lived experience of our provision and offer is felt and tested.

Local Governing Boards meet at least termly, and report directly to the Trust Board via Primary and Secondary Communications Boards.

Darryn Allcorn
Chair of Local Stakeholder Board
Darryn Allcorn is an experienced healthcare leader and has a Masters degree Healthcare education, currently serving as Chief Nursing Officer at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. With a career spanning over 30 years in the NHS, Darryn Aims to bring wealth of strategic leadership, operational expertise, and a deep commitment to community wellbeing.

As a school governor, Darryn offers a unique perspective shaped by his extensive background in healthcare, workforce development, systems working and safeguarding. His experience leading large-scale programmes - such as the establishing of the Nightingale Hospital in Exeter—demonstrates his ability to manage complex challenges, foster collaboration, and deliver results under pressure.
Darryn is passionate about supporting young people and ensuring that schools provide safe, inclusive, and nurturing environments where every child can thrive. His governor role is informed by his values of integrity, equity, and lifelong learning, and he is particularly focused on promoting wellbeing, safeguarding, and staff development within the school community.
Darryn contributes strategic insight and compassionate leadership ensuring it meets the needs of pupils, staff, and families alike.

Dave Hosie
Staff Governor
Dave Hosie has been teaching at Holsworthy for around 20 years and is passionate about mathematics and chemistry, a career that originally brought him to the Southwest. He has a keen interest in educational research and is committed to exploring how students learn best in order to help them maximise their potential.

Dave believes the school plays a special and central role within the local community, bringing together people from all backgrounds across a wide area of Devon. This belief led him to take on the role of Staff Governor, a position he has held for several years.

Outside the classroom, Dave is a keen supporter of both Manchester City and Exeter City and can often be found cheering on the Grecians from the Big Bank. More recently, he has joined HATS, which he is thoroughly enjoying.

Katie Stallard

Staff Governor
Katie has worked in education since 2019, gaining experience across a range of educational settings and developing a strong passion for supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). She currently works as a SEND Intervention Coordinator, supporting pupils through targeted interventions and working closely with staff and families to ensure children receive the support they need to thrive.

Katie is currently undertaking a Level 5 Assistant SENDCo apprenticeship, further developing her knowledge and understanding of SEND, inclusion, safeguarding and effective provision. She is passionate about creating safe, inclusive and nurturing environments where every child feels valued, understood and supported.
A key priority for Katie is effective communication between children, parents and school staff. She believes that building positive relationships and ensuring families feel listened to and involved is fundamental to achieving the best outcomes for children. She is particularly committed to making children feel safe and giving them a voice, while ensuring parents feel heard, supported and confident that their child’s individual needs are understood.
As a governor, Katie brings her experience of working directly with children, families and education professionals, alongside her developing SEND knowledge. She is particularly passionate about inclusion, wellbeing, safeguarding and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to feel safe, supported and able to reach their full potential
